The Abate Zanetti Glass School in Murano/Venice (photo below center), in collaboration with the Association for the Study and Development of the Culture of Murano organized the Premio Murano 2013 (photos below left+right). The aim of the Premio Murano is to promote the tradition of Murano glass, bringing together contemporary designers and Murano glassmakers. This prestigious international competition was organized for the first time in 1984 and was held until 1991. It started again in 2012, after a 21 years break.

Vincenzo Zanetti founded the Murano Glass Museum in 1861 with the intent to restore the lustre of Muranese glassmaking and relaunch the industry.
He devoted himself to studies on the history of his island and the glass industry. He set up a civic glass museum that would gather the testimonies of the art of glass over the centuries, to restore importance to glass art and revive the industry that was experiencing a profound crisis. After obtaining the approval, the Museo Civico del Vetro was founded in 1861 the Biblioteca popolare circolante di Murano.
Zanetti, Glassmith - Veneto, Italy
Oscar Zanetti (1961- , Murano). One of his ancestors, A. Zanetti, was the founder of the Museo del Vetro (Glass Museum) and opened the Scuola del Vetro (Glass School) in 1861. Oscar Zanetti's technique at some of the most prestigious Murano glass ateliers, including Venini and La Murrina. His preference for natural subjects is reflected in his collection.
